Wing Lok · Our Story
A home that grew from a
simple question
We asked older Hong Kong residents what they actually wanted from a place to live — and listened carefully to what they said.
Back to HomeHow Wing Lok came to be
Wing Lok opened its doors on Pok Fu Lam Road in the spring of 2017. The name — 永樂軒, meaning "hall of enduring happiness" — was chosen deliberately. Not contentment earned through effort, but the quiet, everyday kind that comes from being somewhere familiar, among people who know you.
The founder, Ms Cheung Mei Ling, had spent more than fifteen years working in social services across Hong Kong Island. She noticed that many older residents were not looking for clinical care at all. What they wanted was practical help with the small things, the chance to stay part of the city, and a home that did not feel institutional.
Wing Lok was built around that observation. It is not a nursing home and it does not try to be one. It is a residence — a real home — with a small, consistent team who take time to learn each resident's preferences, routines and stories.
What we believe
Dignity in the ordinary
The way a morning cup of tea is brought, the way a reminder is given — these small acts shape the feeling of a day. We train our team to pay attention to them.
Staying part of Hong Kong
Moving into a residence should not mean retreating from life. Our outings programme keeps residents connected to the markets, temples and harbour walks they have always known.
Families are part of this
We operate with open doors. Families visit freely, join meals if they wish, and are kept in the picture. We see their involvement as a natural part of daily life, not an exception to it.
Support without intrusion
Help is offered and calibrated to what each person wants. No one is pushed toward more care than they ask for, and no one is left without support they need.
The people at Wing Lok
Our team is small by design. Residents see the same faces every day, and that familiarity is part of what makes Wing Lok feel like home.
Cheung Mei Ling
Founder & Director
Mei Ling has spent over two decades in Hong Kong's community and social services sector. She founded Wing Lok to offer older residents the kind of thoughtful, unhurried support she had seen was missing.
Lau Wai Keung
Residence Manager
Wai Keung oversees the daily rhythm of Wing Lok — from housekeeping and dining to scheduling outings and managing the team. His background in hospitality management shapes the care he brings to every detail.
Tang Siu Fan
Resident Host & Activities Lead
Siu Fan coordinates the outings programme and accompanies residents on trips around Hong Kong. She grew up in Pok Fu Lam and brings a local knowledge that residents find genuinely useful.
How we keep standards high
Being a small community means we can pay close attention. Here is what that looks like in practice.
Consistent staffing
We limit the number of residents so that every team member can know each person well. Shifts are structured to minimise rotation and keep familiar faces present.
Resident preference records
Each resident has a living profile — dietary preferences, daily routines, favoured activities and topics — updated regularly and shared across the team.
Privacy and discretion
Personal information is handled with care. Staff are trained in data protection practices aligned with Hong Kong's Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance.
Regular family reviews
Twice a year we hold a brief review conversation with each resident and their family — a chance to raise anything, adjust services and ensure everything is working well.
Safety and emergency planning
Staff hold current first-aid certificates. The building is equipped with standard fire and emergency systems, and all team members participate in regular safety drills.
Food and dietary care
Meals are prepared with attention to individual dietary needs and personal preferences. We follow Hong Kong food safety guidelines and purchase from known local suppliers.
Senior living in Pok Fu Lam, Hong Kong
Pok Fu Lam has long been one of Hong Kong's quieter residential districts — hillside streets, mature trees and sea views that are noticeably different from the density of Central or Wan Chai. For older residents, that setting matters. A walk does not have to compete with crowds. Mornings are easier. The air feels different.
Wing Lok sits at the northern end of Pok Fu Lam Road, within comfortable reach of the University of Hong Kong, the Waterfall Bay waterfront and the bus routes that connect easily to Western District markets and the MTR. Residents who value proximity to familiar parts of Hong Kong Island find the location well-placed.
Non-medical senior lifestyle communities of this kind are a growing part of what Hong Kong offers older residents and their families. The decision to choose this kind of arrangement is often less about need and more about quality of life — the wish to have support without losing independence, to have company without being managed, and to stay part of a city that has shaped decades of a person's life.
Wing Lok has been part of that conversation in Pok Fu Lam since 2017. We are not the largest community and we do not aim to be. What we offer is attention — to the person, to the day, to the small things that, over time, make a place feel genuinely like home.
