From residents and their families
We ask families each year for their honest view. Here is a selection from reviews gathered between May and June 2025.
Chan Lai Yee
Daughter of resident, Kennedy Town
My mother moved to Wing Lok's Complete Residence arrangement in March and the difference has been noticeable. She was isolated at home and we were constantly worried. Now she mentions the outings almost every time I call — last month she went to the Man Mo Temple for the first time in years. The team knows her by name, which I honestly did not expect.

Wong Pak Ho
Son of resident, Sheung Wan
We started with just the daily support option for my father and it has worked out well. He still wants to manage most things himself but having someone help with the heavy laundry and the pharmacy run twice a week has made a real difference. The host — Tang Siu Fan — knows his habits and does not make a fuss. That matters to him.

Lam Hiu Tung
Niece of resident, Pok Fu Lam
My aunt was reluctant about any kind of residence arrangement and I was not sure how she would settle. It took about three weeks before she started to relax into the routine. The outings were what made the difference. She goes to the Sham Shui Po market most Thursdays and she has started bringing us back small things. I would recommend it, though I would say give it a month before drawing conclusions.

Tse Chi Wai
Son of resident, Mid-Levels
The pricing is straightforward, which I appreciated. We looked at several options in Hong Kong and many had unclear charges that added up. Wing Lok's complete arrangement is one monthly amount and that is exactly what it has been. No surprises in nine months. The team are accessible — I can call during office hours and someone picks up.

Ng Ka Man
Daughter of resident, Sai Ying Pun
My mother is 79 and still quite independent, so we wanted something that would not feel medical or institutional. Wing Lok is genuinely different that way. She eats with other residents, joins the harbour walks, and does her own thing most mornings. She told me last week she does not feel looked after, which I think is exactly the point.

Yuen Fung Yee
Granddaughter of resident, Wan Chai
I was the one who researched Wing Lok for my grandmother after she found managing the flat difficult on her own. The day visit convinced us. We had tea with the manager and walked through the place without any pressure. My grandmother asked to move in that week. She has been there four months now and I visit on Sundays — it always looks calm and well-kept.

A few resident journeys
These are accounts of how residents came to Wing Lok and how their daily life changed over time. Names have been anonymised.
From managing alone to being part of something
The situation
A 76-year-old resident had been living alone in Sai Ying Pun for twelve years after her husband passed. Her children, both working in different parts of Hong Kong, were concerned that she was not eating regularly and had stopped going out.
What changed
She began with the Excursions & Outings arrangement. Within six weeks she had a consistent weekly routine that included a trip to the wet market near Sheung Wan every Thursday. She moved to the Complete Residence arrangement after three months at her own request.
After 8 months
Her daughter notes she now calls to share news from her outings rather than to talk about feeling alone. She has a favourite seat at dinner, a host she calls by nickname, and a Thursday trip she plans around each week.
"She sounds like herself again on the phone."
Keeping independence while letting go of the heavy things
The situation
A retired civil servant, aged 81, was determined to stay in his own habits. He did not want care — he wanted to keep his mornings to himself and have someone deal with the things his knees made difficult: carrying laundry, walking to the pharmacy.
What changed
He joined the Daily Living Support arrangement. A named host visits three mornings a week, handles the tasks he finds physically difficult, and largely stays out of the way otherwise. No unsolicited conversation, no fuss.
After 5 months
He continues to live independently and has maintained the routine unchanged. His son notes he complains less about back pain and has started talking about potentially joining the outings programme. He has not yet, but the fact that he mentions it is new.
"He still does things his way. That is all he asked for."
